Laipo Magazine publishes essays, conversations, creative writing, criticism, visual art and cultural reportage. We are particularly interested in work that brings fresh perspectives, engages thoughtfully with its subject, and contributes meaningfully to contemporary conversations about Africa and its cultural life.
Submission Guidelines
- Work submitted to Laipo should be original and unpublished elsewhere.
- Simultaneous submissions are permitted. Please notify us promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere.
- Text submissions should be provided in Microsoft Word or Google Docs format.
- Visual submissions should be supplied in high-resolution JPEG or PNG format.
- Contributors should include a brief biography of no more than 100 words.
- Selected work may be considered for inclusion in Laipo's annual print edition, subject to appropriate permissions and contributor notification.
- Laipo currently operates without a standard contributor fee. We are working toward developing sustainable models of contributor compensation as the publication grows.

Encounters
No fixed length. Interview format.
Reviews & Criticism
800 to 1,500 words.
New Writing
Fiction / Nonfiction: 1,000 to 5,000 words. Poetry: 1 to 3 poems.
Visual Culture
Up to eight high-resolution pieces.
Dispatches
500 to 1,200 words.
