Lyrical Renaissance: Naija Poetry Fest and Frequency Room to Release POETRYMYLITIS

By Osarenren Godson – Friday, February 13, 6:00 PM – Lagos, Nigeria
The Nigerian creative industry is poised for a defining moment as Naija Poetry Fest Community, in collaboration with Frequency Room, prepares to release a spoken-word album titled POETRYMYLITIS (Words from Ink). This Nigerian spoken word album reimagines poetry beyond the page and stage, translating verse into a carefully engineered audio experience that captures contemporary African realities through voice, rhythm, and sound.
Founder of Naija Poetry Fest, Godson Osarenren, who nursed the idea like a child, describes the album as a landmark achievement for the community and the literary world:
“This project represents growth. It shows what is possible when emerging voices are given professional platforms.”
Scheduled for release in the coming weeks, POETRYMYLITIS signals a deliberate move toward positioning Nigerian spoken word within the global audio and cultural marketplace.
The album brings together ten poets, whose works traverse personal introspection, cultural memory, spirituality, romance, and socio-political critique. Among them is Adesewa Alagbala, whose poetry interrogates domestic power structures and systemic silence, and Solape Adetutu Adeyemi, who explores vulnerability and sacrifice within human relationships. Pst. Israel Adeniran and Clementina Owumi contribute spiritual and social commentary, while Smilingtessy evokes cultural nostalgia and Reigning Queen delivers resonant patriotic reflections. Completing the lineup are Dr. Brilli with motivational cadence, Deborah Usak providing a contemporary romantic voice, and Jesuyimika Dominion, whose work reflects a global humanitarian consciousness.
Studio production is led by Prince Egwuonwu, Team Lead at Frequency Room, whose direction fuses spoken-word performance with immersive sound design. A defining layer of the album is the African percussive contribution of Shigoarts, whose live drumming grounds the recordings in indigenous rhythm and tradition. The integration of African drums adds texture and depth, reinforcing the album’s cultural roots while expanding its sonic scope. Together, the engineering, live instrumentation, and studio conversations create a richly textured listening experience crafted for both local and international audiences.
The project also received curatorial guidance from cultural curator and poet Lanre Sonde, whose involvement helped frame the album as both artistic expression and archival statement:
“POETRYMYLITIS is not just a collection of poems. It is documentation. It reflects where Nigerian spoken word stands today—confident, layered, and globally aware.”
